Buleleng Festival — a six-day cultural showcase spanning the regency of Buleleng in North Bali, from the coastal capital of Singaraja to the hills of Gitgit and beyond. The festival celebrates the unique heritage of North Bali, which was historically the administrative centre of the island under Dutch colonial rule and retains distinct cultural characteristics.
The programme is packed with Balinese dance competitions featuring troupes from across the regency, culinary shows highlighting Buleleng specialties such as sate kakul (snail satay) and rarawon (traditional herbal vegetable dish), art exhibitions at the Gedong Kirtya museum, live gamelan performances, and community sports events. Evening concerts at Singaraja’s waterfront feature both traditional and contemporary performers.
Visitor tips: Buleleng’s events are spread across multiple venues — pick up a programme at the main festival hub in Singaraja. The town is approximately 2.5 hours from Ngurah Rai Airport. Consider staying in Lovina for easy beach access. The festival coincides with the dry season, making North Bali’s roads and attractions generally accessible. Don’t miss the nearby Gitgit Waterfall and Sekumpul Waterfall.
