Jatiluwih Festival

Jatiluwih Festival — a two-day celebration at the UNESCO World Heritage-listed rice terraces of Jatiluwih in the Tabanan regency of Central Bali. The festival honours the Subak irrigation system, a Balinese Hindu water management tradition recognised by UNESCO for its philosophical and ecological significance.

The festival programme includes cultural performances on the rice terrace stages, traditional arts and craft demonstrations, and a showcase of local cuisine using ingredients grown in the surrounding farmlands. Visitors can join guided walks through the terraced rice fields, learning about the Subak system’s intricate water temples and distribution channels that have sustained Balinese agriculture for over a thousand years. The lush green amphitheatre of the Jatiluwih landscape provides a breathtaking natural backdrop.

Visitor tips: Jatiluwih is located approximately 90 minutes from Ubud and 60 minutes from Canggu. The mountain air is noticeably cooler than the coast — bring a light jacket. Wear comfortable walking shoes for exploring the terraces. The best light for photography is early morning or late afternoon. Entrance to the Jatiluwih area is ticketed. Nearby attractions include the Ulun Danu Beratan Temple and the Bedugul Botanical Gardens.
