Bali Cooking Class: Market Tour, Traditional Dishes & Rice-Field Setting
Learn the secrets of Balinese cuisine from farm to plate in this hands-on half-day cooking class set amidst the rice paddies of Gianyar. Your experience begins at 7:30 AM with a visit to a local market — the same market Balinese families have shopped at for generations. Your instructor guides you past stacks of turmeric and galangal, piles of snake fruit and salak, tubs of freshly caught fish, and the spice stall where you smell your way through the ingredients you will use.
Back at the cooking school — an open-air pavilion overlooking the rice fields — you are assigned your own cooking station. Prepare a full menu: Base Gede (the foundational spice paste), chicken satay with peanut sauce, crispy tempeh, sambal matah, and the iconic Bebek Betutu (slow-cooked duck wrapped in banana leaves). Learn to crack open a coconut with a machete and grate fresh coconut meat. Cook over traditional charcoal stoves and finish by plating everything beautifully. The reward: eating the meal you prepared, with an open view of the valley.
Termasuk: Market tour, cooking station, all ingredients, printed recipe booklet, meal, hotel transfers (Ubud area). Vegetarian and vegan options available on request.
