Bali’s interior is a different island from its beaches: two-thousand-metre volcanoes, ravines threaded with waterfalls, bamboo forests, and rice terraces engineered a thousand years ago. Adventure here doesn’t require expedition logistics — the wildest landscapes are a sunrise drive from your villa, and there’s a version of every experience for first-timers and families as well as thrill-seekers.
This guide covers Bali on foot and on wheels: the treks, the waterfalls, and the engine-powered days — plus where each one is at its best.
What you can do
- Volcano & sunrise experiences — watch dawn break over the caldera at Mount Batur, on foot or by 4WD, with hot springs to follow.
- Waterfall trekking — North Bali hides dozens of falls (Sekumpul, Aling-Aling, Banyumala) reached by beautiful jungle trails.
- Rice-terrace walks — the Tegallalang and Jatiluwih terraces are best experienced slowly, on foot, away from the viewpoints.
- ATV & quad days — mud, jungle tracks, river crossings, and a legitimate excuse to get filthy.
- Ziplines, swings & natural pools — the Ubud jungle’s greatest hits for a high-energy day.

Good to know
How fit do I need to be for the sunrise trek?
The classic Batur hike is about two hours up on a steady trail — manageable for anyone reasonably active. Not a hiker? The 4WD sunrise option delivers the same dawn with none of the climb.
What’s the best season for trekking?
April to October is driest and best for trails and views. In the rainy months, waterfalls are at their most powerful — and morning starts usually beat the afternoon showers. We’ll advise honestly for your dates.
Can kids join ATV and trekking days?
Many operators welcome children — tandem ATV rides typically from around age 6–10, easier treks for any age that enjoys walking. Tell us who’s coming and we’ll match the day to the youngest member.
What should I wear and bring?
Shoes with grip, a light rain layer, water, and sun protection. For sunrise trips it’s genuinely cold up top before dawn — bring a warm layer, you’ll thank us at 5 AM.
